Escalating Ukraine war

It is likely that the war in Ukraine will escalate this year into either a European war or a world war.

All peace initiatives have failed so far. The main reason is that the USA does not want peace because of its considerations. White House spokesman John Kirby: “Washington's position on Kiev is absolutely clear: First, they've got to win this war.”

Peace-loving leaders such as Hungarian Prime Minister Orban and Serbian President Vučić have been unable to achieve peace.

Most politicians are more inclined toward war than seeking peace. See also the result of the vote on the Dutch MP van Meijeren motion calling for de-escalation. Only the Dutch parties DENK, FvD and the SP (11 seats out of 150) voted for de-escalation.

The current situation could lead to a (nuclear) war throughout Europe or the world.
We as citizens cannot risk that indeed a war will come to Europe.

What we can do

The last hope is enough conscious citizens who can peacefully convince the politicians that things can peacefully be different.

A starting point for persuasion is the NATO Treaty introduction and NAVO-treaty Article 1. The NATO members have signed the NATO treaty. So they are expected to abide by the treaty, and thus also Article 1, and to implement it.

The more citizens in NATO countries ask their governments to comply with Article 1 of the NATO Treaty the greater the pressure, the greater the chance of lasting peace and restoration of peace. The sample letters below may be helpful.

Letter to NATO in Microsoft Word doc, pdf and txt format.
Other, than an address for a letter, useful contact information was not found.

Promotion

There is a poster in pdf and doc format (Dutch example) that can be used as a flyer, poster, sandwich man board to raise awareness.

Questions or help needed? Let us know via an e-mail.

Implementation

Implementing the other course is then further up to the politicians.

Feedback

If you sent the letters let info@peace-europe.eu know. Please include the country, city, date and which letters you sent.

If you receive a response to the letters sent in we would like to receive a copy of the letter. Please remove your name (in the address and salutation), street and house number and postal code for privacy reasons.

Place name, date and everything else please leave it readable so we can show that the letters we received from submitters are from different submitters.

Follow-up

If a substantial number of letters have been sent for a country we will try make to find someone who wants to make a request to the State to ask how many letters have been received. With the response, we can then issue a press release and thereby create more publicity and increase the pressure for a peaceful solution.

Requests to NATO will be handeled by peace-europe.eu.

Background

This initiative was started to make citizens aware of the threat of war and the existence of Article 1 of the NATO Treaty.

Hopefully, this initiative will prove unnecessary, and peace in Europe or the world will be preserved and peace in Ukraine will be quickly restored.
